GY
We beg to acknowledge receipt of your letter of
yesterday, transmitting a copy of a telegram sent to the
Governor of Hong Kong on the subject of a further respite
of sentence in this Case.
2.
The Privy Council have notified us that the
Petition for special leave to appeal will be heard at 10.30
a.m. on Tuesday next the 19th instant, and we have no power
to postpone the hearing.
3.
The Petitioner having served Notice of his intention
to apply to the Privy Council on the Attorney-General of Hong
Kong, was in a position to proceed with this Case without
serving us with the Petition had he so desired. His Solici-
tors have no doubt arranged with the Registrar for a speedy
hearing of the application, and we are unable to defer it.
We are, Sir,
Your obedient Servants,
Burchells.
The Under Secretary of State,
Colonial Office,
